Hollyoaks and History Boys
A group of journalism students bumped into Hollyoaks heart throb Stephen Uppal aka Ravi Roy on the train during a trip to London. The star looked pleasantly surprised as the students, goaded by a certain university lecturer, pounced on him for a quick interview.
Stephen Uppal, former student of Cleveland Theatre School is best known for playing Hollyoaks’ hottest new man about town in the popular television drama, Hollyoaks. Ravi Roy is a cheeky, vivacious bouncer working for local bad boy Warren Fox in The Loft nightclub. He enjoys a turbulent relationship with Nancy and has recently caused a stir after attempting to kiss his mate, Russ Owen.
The young actor’s big screen debut was launched in May of this year and he has been on air regularly since June. “It’s a nice little show” he said “a good laugh, I get on really well with everyone”.
Despite his busy schedule with the programme and two year contract his real passion lies with the Theatre. Stephen was at Conservatoire de Theatre for two years training whilst he studied English at University in Teesside. “The adrenaline rush of live performance really excites me” he said. Stephen went onto Arts Educational for further training and has recently finished 6 months at the West End with The National Theatre performing in The History Boys.
Mr. Uppal’s two year contract with Hollyoaks leads us to the assumption that he isn’t scheduled to be killed off any time soon but he hopes “for an exciting exit when the time comes”. Although his real interest stems from live performance his aspirations for the future include more television appearances and he hopes to play a character completely different to Ravi Roy in his next project. Perhaps a “real bad guy; that would be fun” he said.
